PORZELLAN
Dark concrete walls, at the same time fibrous and translucent like old sacks with holes, have risen inside such an old, empty shop space. They form a strange shack, a new space that occupies the empty downtown store. This structure is slanted on one side, reminiscent of an old cellar entrance, perhaps a bunker, with a heavy but firmly locked wooden door. This door is adorned with a small round peephole, which promises a glimpse into the interior of this scary chamber. Fire red, a surreal light shines out, burns through the cracks and holes in a
thin and porous-looking walls.
An outlandish architectural structure in the middle of the empty shop space, with a large window that allows a look outside and creates a transparent view. A glance outside the window is like a glimpse of a faraway world, very different from the one inside. At the same time, the inside is like a crack in reality. Parallel worlds separated by thin glass, fragile like porcelain, face each other. And while the downtown city pulsates, so does the red light inside this space, connected by a
large aluminium tube to the equally crumbling wall of this abandoned place, as if the structure would be nourished by him.
Without any explanation, a fantastic structure has grown in the ruins the innermost of which remains hidden. Only a video gives an indication of what could be inside this bunker. It allows a voyeuristic look at the chaos, the disorder, and the goings-on of an isolated figure.
Viewers may sway between the rational and the supernatural
when experiencing this strange place. The emergence of one‘s own
individual web of thoughts is stimulated and a space for questions is created. Is there a fictional explanation for what you saw? A rational explanation? How can the seen be linked to the reality outside? What reality does make this true? Is this fiction? How do we free ourselves from this chaos?
An urban ruin became an expansive installation. A room within a room was created and a fantastically dystopian counter-world to the outside was manifested. The artists unleash the fantastic and the disordered to question reality.
